Why are oil changes so important?

If your Ford is a model year 2007 or older, you should most likely be changing your oil every six months or 5,000 miles, whichever happens to come first. If your Ford vehicle is a model year 2008 or newer, you should probably be changing your oil every 7,500 miles or every six months. There are some cases where you should change your oil at a more regular rate. If you're consistently hauling heavy loads, idling, or driving at lower speeds for extended periods of time, then you should most likely change your oil at a more regular rate.

If you are driving in dusty conditions or off-roading a lot, then you should be checking your oil more often. If your vehicle is using E85 fuel more than half of your driving time, you should probably check your oil at a more constant rate. Always make sure you check your Ford Owner's guide to figure out your exact oil change intervals.

How do I know my oil needs changing?

You can be notified of when your vehicle needs an oil change via the available intelligent oil-life monitor™ (IOLM) system on your vehicle's instrument cluster display. An alert that says something like "Engine Oil Change Soon" or "Oil Change Required" will populate that area when it is time for an oil change if your Ford has this feature. This system also tells you when you need your fuel filters changed or if your fuel pressure is lower than it should be. Feel free to use the maintenance scheduler tool that is available on the Ford Owner site to see when you should be bringing your vehicle into Jack Powell Ford, your local Ford dealership, to get the oil change in Mineral Wells that your vehicle needs to stay running how it should be running.
